Every war I get into ends in a "white peace". enemy is at 100% war attrition. Prefacing by saying that I've been tryna play as a peaceful, xenophilic species of gay frogs. The most common way to end a war is status quo, systems you claimed and conquered belong to you, as long as your wargoal was conquering. to be honest wars in stellaris except those done in total war are just frustrating. I think it might have something to do with the fact that during the war, another AI was fighting the same enemy (Lokken) as I was. I can't find anywhere to view and edit my war goals. rules pretty harsh now: -must have domination tradision. If the vassal doesn't like it they should get help from another empire and rebel.
